Australian trumpeter and composer Nadje Noordhuis has been a featured soloist with symphony orchestras, Afro-Cuban big bands, large and small jazz ensembles, and has appeared on many recordings across a variety of musical genres. She has performed at numerous jazz festivals in the Netherlands, Australia and the U.S.A, and recorded with acclaimed artists including Tom Harrell, Candido, Dave Liebman, Jim Black and Ben Monder. A keen composer, Ms. Noordhuis wrote a score that was performed live to a screening of an award-winning Australian short film, as part of the 2005 Foreign Exchange Film Festival in New York. She was commissioned in 2002 to compose a suite to accompany a set of photographs, which was performed by her new music group comprised of strings, percussion and trumpet. She has also been awarded several traveling scholarships to write and perform her original music, and won a jazz ensemble competition that performed one of her original compositions. She has been honored with an Arts Encouragement Award in Australia. Ms. Noordhuis is also in demand as an educator, and has developed and implemented curricula for student jazz bands as well as private instrumental lessons. In 2002, she established a small business that runs improvisation workshops for high school students.
Ms. Noordhuis has been based in New York for the past three years, and was a scholarship recipient at the Manhattan School of Music, where she completed her Master of Music degree in 2005 with a 3.963 GPA. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sound Engineering and Multimedia from Southern Cross University, Australia, and a Bachelor of Music Performance degree with Honors from the Victorian College of the Arts, Australia, where she majored in improvisation.
