Lynn Gruenewald grew up in the Midwest, where her fascination with music began at an early age. Before she could read music, she enjoyed picking out melodies from television and movies on the household piano. She began studying piano at the age of 6 and switched to flute at the age of 12. In high school, Lynn picked up the alto saxophone so that she could play in the jazz band. While she majored at first in Flute Performance in college, jazz would eventually become her passion. Lynn graduated from Michigan State University with bachelor of music degrees in Music Performance and Jazz Studies and a master of music degree in Jazz Studies.

Lynn's career has given her the opportunity to meet and perform with many great musicians. She has performed at the Detroit International Jazz Festival numerous times and has given concerts at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater and Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola. Lynn has had the privilege of sharing the stage with many great jazz musicians including Rodney Whitaker, Wycliffe Gordon, Wynton Marsalis, Gerald Wilson, Christian McBride, Stefon Harris, Jon Faddis, and the late, great Frank Morgan, among others. She is also a gifted educator, teaching with programs such as the Stanford Jazz Workshop, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Civic Jazz program, and Jazz at Lincoln Center's Middle School Jazz Academy.

Lynn leads an exciting life as a freelance performer, educator, composer, arranger, copyist, and transcriber in New York City. She hopes to entertain and inspire many more audiences and students with her gift of music.
